Khaberni - Haifa Darwish, the head of the child labor inspection department in the Ministry of Labor, disclosed that 154 child labor cases were detected last October through 6041 inspection visits.
Darwish stated on Wednesday that the inspection teams penalized 85 establishments that employed children and issued warnings to another 37, noting that the ministry is working on activities to raise awareness of the dangers of child labor.
The Ministry received about 56 reports through various channels at the Ministry of Labor regarding child labor, in contrast to receiving 92 complaints related to child labor rights through the protection platform for labor complaints, according to Darwish.
Darwish discussed a range of challenges faced by the inspectors of the Ministry of Labor, including the escape of the working child during inspections, often instigated by the employer, in addition to the lack of adequate data on the working child at the employer’s end.
Darwish noted that the fines for employers who employ children range from 300 – 500 dinars, considering this amount to be a "deterrent".
