Khaberni - A viral video captured a leopard attacking policemen during a rescue operation in Nagala Park area in Kolhapur, resulting in their injuries.
The incident occurred near the main office of the electricity company in the heart of the city, where the leopard entered a populated area with shops, causing concern among the residents.
The video shows a group of policemen trying to surround the leopard using sticks and bars, before the animal charged at one of the officers who slipped while trying to move away.
The officer quickly responded by defending himself and attempted to fend off the attack with a stick, forcing the leopard to temporarily retreat.
Forest officials confirmed two people were injured, including a policeman, during the operation, and they noted that their condition is stable and not critical as some had expected.
The authorities imposed a security cordon around the area, warning residents not to leave, while the efforts of the specialized team continue to calm the animal and sedate it to enable its relocation to a safe area away from residential gatherings.
