Khaberni - His Majesty King Abdullah II affirmed, during his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo today, Tuesday, the importance of intensifying efforts to expand cooperation between Jordan and Japan in various fields, especially between private sector institutions.
His Majesty congratulated the Japanese Prime Minister on her assumption of office last October, emphasizing his keenness to build on the strategic partnership between Jordan and Japan.
His Majesty expressed his pride in the historical relations that bring together the two friendly countries and peoples, which have extended for more than 70 years.
His Majesty valued, during the meeting attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, His Majesty's chief advisor for religious and cultural affairs and His Majesty's personal envoy, the financial and technical support provided by Japan to Jordan to implement projects in priority sectors.
His Majesty the King and the Japanese Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the agreements signed by the governments of the two countries on the sidelines of the visit, in the fields of cybersecurity and the economic growth and human development support program.
Speaking about the latest developments in the Middle East, His Majesty stressed the need for all parties to commit to the agreement to end the war in Gaza, and to stop unilateral actions against the Palestinians in the West Bank and attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
His Majesty urged for the intensification of international efforts to respond to the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and to mobilize support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to perform its duties according to its UN mandate, pointing out the importance of Japan's efforts in this regard.
His Majesty affirmed the necessity of the Palestinian people achieving their legitimate rights and the establishment of their independent state based on the two-state solution.
For her part, the Japanese Prime Minister welcomed His Majesty's visit to Japan, expressing her appreciation for Jordan's important role, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, in striving for stability in the region, and confirming her country's eagerness to deepen the strategic partnership with the Kingdom.
She praised the leadership role of His Majesty the King in supporting efforts for economic reforms in Jordan, pointing out the importance of forming a committee from both the private and public sectors in both countries to develop the business environment and encourage investment in Jordan and support Japanese companies operating in the kingdom.
On the sidelines of the royal visit, Jordan and Japan signed a concessional loan agreement to support the economic growth and human development program valued at 100 million dollars, a grant to enhance national capabilities in the field of cybersecurity valued at 5 million dollars, and a memorandum of cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, signed on behalf of the Jordanian side by the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, the Director of His Majesty the King's Office, Alaa Batayneh, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, and the Jordanian Ambassador to Japan, Nasser Al-Sharida.
