Khaberni - Mohammed Al-Hayari, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, stated on Sunday that permission has been granted to import an estimated 4,000 tons of olive oil to meet the first phase local market requirements.
He added that one of the conditions is that the weight of the imported olive oil package should not exceed 8 kg.
The Ministry of Agriculture previously confirmed that Jordan's olive oil needs reach 25,000 tons.
Al-Hayari emphasized that there will be no monopoly in the olive oil import file.
He pointed out that starting from next week, the ministry will begin granting approvals for importing olive oil.
He indicated that after opening the import door and meeting the local market needs, the door for exporting Jordanian olive oil might be opened if appropriate quantities of oil are brought into Jordan.
