Khaberni - The Moroccan team received a painful blow just a few weeks before the start of the 2025 African Nations Cup hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco.
French media reports confirmed that Nayef Aguerd, a defender at Marseille, left his team's match against Brest, which ended with a 3-0 win for the latter, suffering from an injury to the groin area, amidst great concerns about his absence from the continental tournament.
It added: "Coach Roberto De Zerbi expressed his concern about the severity of the injury, indicating that it could deprive the Moroccan defender of participating in the scheduled African Nations Cup, which would be a strong blow for both his club and his national team."
It mentioned that the injuries of two of the top stars of the "Atlas Lions," Achraf Hakimi and Nayef Aguerd, at a critical time raises concerns within the team corridors and among Moroccan fans.
At the same time, Achraf Hakimi is suffering from a muscle injury he sustained with Paris Saint-Germain, forcing him into an intensive treatment program to catch up with the upcoming competitions.
Although the medical team of the French club has not precisely determined the duration of his absence, preliminary indicators suggest that his participation in the African tournament is still in doubt, pending developments in his condition in the coming weeks.
It concluded: "The absence of the duo, if confirmed, would represent a major crisis for coach Walid El Rkakra, who relies on them as main pillars in the lines of defense and defensive stability, especially since the Moroccan team aspires to repeat its historical achievement in the Qatar World Cup and move towards a continental coronation on its land and among its fans."
