Shortage of Colchicine Drug Causes Concern Among Patients in Jordan

Khaberni - Patients with gout and Mediterranean fever in Jordan complain of a severe shortage in the availability of colchicine in pharmacies, despite its importance in alleviating the severe symptoms of both diseases, especially swelling of the limbs and joint pain resulting from gout, or the recurrent inflammatory attacks associated with Mediterranean fever.

Khaberni site monitored multiple complaints from patients and visitors who confirmed that most pharmacies in Jordan only provide two packages monthly of the drug, which does not exceed one Jordanian dinar in price, forcing patients to search for it in more than one place or resort to alternatives.

Although some pharmacists point to the existence of pharmaceutical alternatives to colchicine, doctors often recommend using the original drug due to its proven effectiveness and rapid response in patients.

Patients are calling on the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Health and the Pharmacy Syndicate, to intervene to ensure the regular supply of the drug in various regions of the kingdom, especially since it is considered one of the basic treatments for chronic conditions that require continuous monitoring.
