Warning for teenagers Health and psychological risks caused by energy drinks

Khaberni - The site "Abounet.de" warned about the dangers of energy drinks on both the physical and psychological health of teenagers.

High blood pressure and heart problems

The site, which is the official gateway for German pharmacists, explained that energy drinks typically contain high amounts of caffeine, sugar, and other stimulants such as guarana or taurine, noting that these drinks can raise blood pressure even in healthy children and cause irregular heartbeats in children who have heart problems.

Rising sugar levels in energy drinks can also increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay. Moreover, little is known about the long-term negative effects of these added substances on children’s health.

Psychological Effects

In addition to the physical effects, energy drinks can have a negative impact on mental health as well; they can exacerbate anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and cause sleep disorders, increasing the risk of symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Lack of sleep and internal disturbance also negatively affect concentration and academic performance.

Advice for Parents

To protect teenagers from the health risks of energy drinks, parents should:

- Set clear rules and explain to them why they should not consume energy drinks.

- Offer healthy alternatives like water or unsweetened tea.

- Be role models; parents should avoid consuming energy drinks themselves.
