Khaberni - Tariq Abul Ragheb, former director of the Media and Exhibitions Authority and a lawyer, emphasized that the discussions about abolishing the debtor imprisonment law are inaccurate, stating that the law has now become a reality and it will not be reversed.

Abul Ragheb explained that the amendments came as a result of repeated demands for implementing international agreements, and after extensive deliberations involving lawyers and economic experts over two years, the parties reached a consensual formula.

He mentioned that the previous government courageously proposed the amendment, which clearly stipulates the prohibition of imprisoning debtors for contractual debts, with three exceptions that were agreed upon: labor rights, legitimate alimony, and residential lease contracts.

He added that the law has come into effect, and there are attempts to confuse public opinion by claiming that it will be canceled, asserting that these claims are not true.
