Consumer Protection Olive Oil Tin Prices Exceed 150 Dinars

Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Consumer Protection Association, Maher Hajjat, stated that the association has received many complaints over the past few days about the significant increase in olive oil prices, with the price of an oil tin in some areas reaching about 150 dinars.

He added that during a field tour in the Irbid area, it was observed that the prices ranged between 130 and 150 dinars per tin, describing the prices as fictional and not proportionate to the purchasing power of Jordanian citizens, especially in light of the decreased production quantities in the northern and western regions that depend on rainwater.

He pointed out that so far, the government has not issued any decisions regarding setting price caps for olive oil, expecting that the production quantities in various regions of the kingdom will become clear within a week to ten days, which requires the government to take quick measures, either by setting a price ceiling or by preventing the illegal storage of oil, and even opening the door to importation to achieve a balance between supply and demand, without harming the farmers. Hajat urged citizens to buy oil from trusted and well-known places, and to avoid purchasing through social media sites that sometimes promote fake offers or adulterated products at low prices.
