Surge of Massive Polar Air Masses Towards North Atlantic How Does It Affect the Middle East

Khaberni - The latest weather updates issued by the computer models accredited by the Arab Weather Center indicate an escalation and intensification of Atlantic storm activity in the coming period, where it is expected that regions in the North Atlantic and parts of Europe will experience severe weather fluctuations. These fluctuations include a significant drop in temperatures and strong winds with speeds that may reach 100 kilometers per hour or more, along with an increased likelihood of snowfall in northern Europe.

Significant weather changes are expected in the countries bordering the North Atlantic in the upcoming period. In detail, the meteorological specialists at the Arab Weather Center's regional office stated that the pattern of the weather systems in the northern hemisphere is taking on more winter-like features in the coming period, with the growth of polar air masses above the Arctic Circle. This leads to an enhanced surge of extremely cold air masses from the North Pole toward the North Atlantic, which will interact with the warm and moist weather systems present in the ocean, resulting in the formation of deep low-pressure systems with widespread effects. It is expected that these depressions will move across the Atlantic Ocean toward northwest Europe, causing weather disturbances that may last several days.

The Atlantic storms directly affect northern Europe with severe weather disturbances. With the surge of air masses and the formation of Atlantic storms accompanied by a cold air front, the storms cause gusty winds and high waves, in addition to heavy rainfall and snowfalls over high mountain peaks, especially in Iceland. Temperatures drop below zero degrees Celsius in several areas of northwest Europe amid extremely cold conditions.

In this context, these storms cause a significant rise in ocean waves, which may lead to coastal flooding in some low-lying areas.

How does this affect the weather in the Arab world? Meteorological analyses indicate that the surge of polar air masses towards the North Atlantic pushes the high-pressure system eastward, affecting most parts of the European continent, preventing the cold air masses from reaching Eastern Mediterranean and the Arabian Peninsula, thus stabilizing the atmosphere and continuing the absence of rainfall in most regions.
