Khaberni - WhatsApp announced the addition of a new and more secure way to access encrypted chat backups through the support of passkeys (Passkeys).

The new feature enables users to easily restore their backups in case of phone loss, using fingerprint, facial recognition, or the previous device's screen lock code, without the need to remember complex passwords or keep long encryption keys.

In 2021, WhatsApp added the feature of complete encryption for backups using passwords or 64-character keys, but these methods required users to manually save them to restore their data later, according to a report published by "Tech Crunch" and reviewed by "Al Arabiya Business".

The passkeys feature greatly simplifies the process while adding an extra layer of security at the same time.

The company, which surpassed 3 billion active users last May, stated that the feature will start rolling out to users in the coming weeks and months.

To activate encrypted backups or check the availability of the passkeys option, users can go to:

Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > Fully Encrypted Backup.
