Government We are working on studies to build an overpass connecting North Amman to South Amman

Khaberni - Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan stated on Wednesday that the government is working on completing studies and establishing partnerships with investors to build the overpass that connects North Amman to South Amman, specifically between Sweileh and Na'our Bridge.

The bridge not only addresses traffic congestion at the airport road and King Abdullah II road (Medical City), but also provides a quick alternative solution ensuring smooth traffic flow between the north and south of the kingdom without the need to enter downtown and putting pressure on the existing main roads there, according to Hassan.

Hassan confirmed in the twelfth monthly cabinet meeting held in the provinces, taking place in the capital Amman, that the bridge will also include a lane for a high-frequency bus to serve citizens, and that this project will be carried out in partnership with the private sector as an investment project.

Hassan added that the government is currently conducting studies on using the infrastructure of the Hejaz railway line from Zarqa to Rusaifa and Giza, to operate a light train between Amman and Zarqa as a first phase, and later to Queen Alia International Airport as part of an integrated framework with the high-frequency bus line.

He mentioned that the government aims to complete this project and have it operational by 2030 after several entities have expressed their interest in it and we have begun preparing feasibility studies for it.

He noted that the developmental vision for the capital's governorate includes launching significant national and investment projects, alongside other projects to improve the level of services provided to citizens in various sectors such as transportation, water, health, education, and others, not only in the areas of the Amman Municipality but also in all areas of the capital governorate and its municipalities from Muwaqqar to Giza, Na'our, Sahab, Umm al-Rasas, Umm al-Basateen, Husban, and Al-Amiriya.

Hassan clarified that the plan of the government and the Amman Municipality focuses on implementing quality projects in the transport sector to serve the citizens, and to reduce traffic congestion, which includes expanding the services of the high-frequency bus to reach Al-Salt this year, along with increasing the number of buses operating on the Amman - Madaba route, which transports approximately 1,300 citizens daily, and has been used by more than 150,000 citizens since its operation six months ago.

In his talk about Marka Airport, Hassan mentioned that next month will see the reopening of Amman Civil Airport in Marka after years of closure, which will enhance the economic and tourist opportunities for Amman and the kingdom in general.
