Iraqi Judiciary Clarifies Regarding the Execution Sentence of a Syrian Youth in Najaf

Khaberni - The Media Center for the Supreme Judicial Council denied the accuracy of the information circulated on some social media sites regarding the issuance of an execution sentence against a Syrian for posting a clip that glorifies Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa.

The center announced in a statement that "some social media sites have published the image of a judgment issued by the Najaf Criminal Court, which includes an execution sentence against a convict holding Syrian nationality on the grounds that he was arrested for posting a video in glorification of the current Syrian president, which also contained materials concerning the Free Army in his phone".

The center clarified that this information is not accurate "as the judgment issued against the suspect is for the crime of confessing to glorifying the terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as well as praising and encouraging the killing of members of the Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Forces in the Tarmiya area by posting videos related to that through his personal page on social media sites".

The statement adds that he "requested people to join the ISIS terrorist entity, and also posted videos of him burning a picture of Imam Ali" with the aim of creating chaos and sedition within the same society".

It indicated that this judgment is not final and will be reviewed by the Federal Supreme Court.
