Khaberni - Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, advised French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday to direct forces to protect museums in his country, instead of sending them to Ukraine.
Zakharova stated on her "Telegram" channel that "according to 2025 data, there are 1,123 museums in France. It would be better for Macron to send these soldiers—two per site—to protect these cultural locations, to avoid what happened at the Louvre, given the deteriorating internal security situation and lack of law enforcement."
This came after the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service earlier on Tuesday revealed that, on Macron's order, France is preparing to deploy a military force of two thousand soldiers and officers in Ukraine, to assist Kyiv in the war.
The agency in its statement said, "upon his (Macron) instructions, the French Armed Forces General Staff is preparing to deploy a military unit of up to two thousand soldiers and officers in Ukraine, to assist the Kyiv regime," adding that "the core of the unit will consist of storm troops from the French Foreign Legion, most of whom are from Latin American countries."
It also clarified that according to the information received, "the Legion has already been deployed in areas adjacent to Ukraine, in Poland, and are undergoing intensive combat coordination."
The Louvre theft
It is noted that on October 19, thieves stole 8 valuable pieces worth approximately 102 million dollars from the Louvre collection.
While the theft revealed security loopholes during their breakthrough into the world's most visited museum using a crane and breaking a window on an upper floor during working hours, they then escaped on motorcycles.
