60 Completion Rate in the Rehabilitation Project of Housha Tunnel in Mafraq

Khaberni - The completion rate in the project of rehabilitating and maintaining and improving the stormwater drainage system in Housha Tunnel is 60%, according to Omar Al-Maharme, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.

Al-Maharme stated today, Tuesday, that the project included the implementation of a stormwater drainage line using 1200 mm diameter cement pipes with a length of 1065 meters, aligned with the existing line, in addition to implementing a stormwater drainage pipe with a diameter of 500 mm inside the tunnel, along with grille installations and manholes with metal covers, together with temporary traffic diversions which include separating the alley coming from Al-Ramtha bridge, and the installation of reinforced plastic barriers with warning and guidance signs as per Petra.

He emphasized the importance of the project, which costs half a million dinars, and came in response to repeated problems experienced by the tunnel during the rainy seasons, which negatively affected the traffic movement and the safety of citizens, and to reduce the accumulation of rainwater and ensure the smooth drainage and protect the adjacent facilities from flood risks.

It is noted that the Housha tunnel has suffered since its construction from the accumulation of large amounts of rainwater, due to the drainage system's inability to handle large volumes, in addition to the accumulation of soil and stones in the drainage channels, which forces the relevant authorities to close the tunnel to traffic for varying periods.
