Khaberni - September witnessed a series of activities and events implemented by the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, aimed at enhancing the rights and empowerment of persons with disabilities in educational, social, economic, and other fields.
In a step reflecting the Council's support for students with disabilities, His Highness Prince Mired bin Raad, the chief of trustees and president of the Council, honored the top students with disabilities who passed the general secondary examination for the academic year 2024–2025 with grades exceeding 95%. A total of 641 students participated in the exam, 390 of whom succeeded, including 23 students who scored above 90%, an achievement that reflects their ability to excel and challenge stereotypes.
The second phase of the project "We Will Not Abandon Any Woman: Gender-Based Violence and Disability" was launched, implemented by the Italian Association for Women's Development (AIDOS) in cooperation with the Council, targeting the enhancement of protection and social empowerment for women and girls with disabilities in refugee camps and host communities, focusing on providing integrated psychological and social support to approximately 5850 individuals.
In the context of empowering persons with disabilities in digital media, the Council, in cooperation with the "Madraj for Digital Media Entrepreneurship" platform, concluded the intensive training program "Digital Start," which was attended by 14 individuals with various disabilities. The program aimed to develop participants’ skills in digital media and content production, reflecting their issues and rights.
In an important move to enhance service inclusivity, the Irbid Governorate Electricity Company and the Council signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at improving access for persons with disabilities to the company's services, affirming the company's commitment to providing an inclusive work environment and services for all.
The Council also carried out more than 30 field visits in cooperation with partner entities, covering shelter centers to inspect the conditions of the beneficiaries and the quality of services provided. The program also included a Training of Trainers (TOT) for the Parkinson's Patient Care Association, in addition to practical training at the Potash Center for Inclusive Day Services.
The month saw the implementation of 44 training programs, including awareness programs on communication etiquette with persons with disabilities and specialized programs in qualifying certification officers and raising awareness of the requirements for employing persons with disabilities.
The Council also conducted 13 technical visits to monitor the conditions of blind students and prepared technical reports for setting up new schools to provide an appropriate educational environment for students with disabilities. As part of the inclusive education project, works to prepare five schools were received in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
In the field of public safety and access, the Directorate of Access conducted a field visit to Jordan Museum Bus Station after an incident involving a girl with a mobility disability, and prepared a detailed report on the incident.
The Council received a number of complaints related to the right to work, most of which were resolved, with four persons with disabilities being employed in the private sector. The Council also provided sign language translation services in 14 meetings and seminars, in addition to producing educational videos with translation.
