The European Union joins the alliance against match piracy

Khaberni - The European Football Union announced its joining of the global alliance against digital piracy, a step considered the first of its kind among major sports institutions.

The British newspaper The Athletic explained that this decision came after a significant increase in the phenomenon of illegal streaming of UEFA Champions League matches, which caused substantial financial losses for the official broadcasting partners and for the clubs participating in the continental tournaments.

It added: "The European Football Union confirmed that protecting broadcasting rights has become a top priority, as they are the main source of funding for club competitions and national teams, pointing out that piracy negatively affects the development of the game and its financial stability. This new cooperation will allow for the sharing of expertise and technical resources with the relevant authorities to pursue the websites and platforms that illegally broadcast the matches."

It continued: "The alliance joined by UEFA includes global companies from the sports, entertainment, and media sectors, and aims to develop unified mechanisms for monitoring pirated content and removing it immediately during live broadcasts. The new plan includes cooperation with law enforcement authorities in various countries to pursue the networks behind these operations."

It increased: "This step was considered a strategic shift in the way the European Football Union handles the piracy issue, aiming to build a more secure digital system that preserves the rights of clubs and fans alike. Observers believe that this approach marks the beginning of a new phase in protecting sports content from the increasing digital violations."
