Israel Calls on Canada to Retract Intent to Arrest Netanyahu

Khaberni - The Israeli government has called on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to retract his promise to enforce the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is accused of committing war crimes in Gaza, should he visit Canada.

In an interview with Bloomberg last week, Carney was asked if he would honor his predecessor Justin Trudeau's pledge to arrest Netanyahu if he visited Canada, to which he replied, "Yes".

On her part, the Israeli government spokesperson told reporters today, Tuesday, "We believe that Prime Minister Carney should, of course, reconsider this matter and welcome Prime Minister Netanyahu in Canada."

The spokesperson described Canada's decision to recognize the state of Palestine as a "reward for terrorism," and that it "has only contributed to increasing anti-Semitism in Canada."

Canada is one of the 11 Western countries that officially recognized the state of Palestine last month, in a historic shift amid the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip, which lasted two years and resulted in more than 68,000 martyrs and 170,000 injured.

Last year, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Galant on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
