Britain Removes Syrian Hayat Tahrir alSham from Terror List

Khaberni - The British government, on Tuesday, removed the name of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham from the list of banned terrorist organizations.

Britain had banned the body, which was formerly associated with Al-Qaeda, and designated it as a terrorist organization in 2017.

In December last year, the British government stated that it might reconsider the banning decision, while the administration of US President Donald Trump revoked the designation of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham as a foreign terrorist organization in July.

Britain joined other countries in welcoming the end of Bashar al-Assad's rule, which represented one of the biggest turning points in the Middle East in decades.

The British government mentioned in a statement that removing Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham from the banned organizations list would allow closer cooperation with the new Syrian government.
