Khaberni - The lawyer and legal advisor Dana Nasser clarified the approach of the Jordanian law towards cases of spousal theft or theft among first-degree relatives.

Nasser pointed out in statements to Khaberni that the financial independence of a husband or wife under Jordanian law is separate from the other spouse’s, and the wife has full rights to manage her own assets without the husband’s interference, as well as the right to manage her personal properties.

She mentioned that theft penalties vary depending on the case and the circumstances of the crime.

She also stated that theft cases among first-degree relatives, such as spouses, are not automatically considered a punishable crime under Jordanian law, except in specific cases provided by the law and depending on the circumstances of the case, such as if the husband or wife (the victim) files a complaint against the perpetrator.

She clarified that the circumstances differ if the funds belong to one party alone, or if there is joint ownership, such as if they are partners in a car, a piece of land, a building, or similar.

And she clarified that it's possible to drop the case and the personal right at any stage of the trial if the complaining party withdraws.
