Khaberni - The Ministerial Committee for the Executive Program of the Hygiene Strategy and the Reduction of Random Waste Disposal for the years 2026–2027 has announced the launch of an integrated national plan to enhance public hygiene during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, as part of the executive program for the strategy, with broad participation from various official entities.
The participating entities include ministries of: Interior, Tourism and Antiquities, Endowments and Sacred Affairs and Islamic Affairs, Culture, Local Administration, Youth, Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Government Communication, Public Works and Housing, and Agriculture, in addition to the Public Security Directorate, the Royal Environmental Protection Administration, Greater Amman Municipality, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Petra Region Authority, and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature.
The plan includes implementing intensive cleaning campaigns at picnic sites, tourist and archaeological sites, and natural reserves across the kingdom, especially those which witness significant attendance during the Eid vacation.
These campaigns will be executed by the Ministries of Environment, and Local Administration through municipalities and the Amman Municipality, while the Ministry of Tourism will execute campaigns at tourist and archaeological sites, and the Ministry of Interior, through administrative governors and in coordination with relevant directorates, will support their implementation. The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature will execute campaigns within natural reserves.
The plan also includes the distribution of trash bags to picnickers, along with bags designated for use inside vehicles, aiming to reduce the phenomenon of random waste disposal and promote positive environmental behaviors.
In terms of monitoring, inspection tours at picnic sites will be intensified through static and foot patrols. The Public Security Directorate, through the Royal Environmental Protection Administration and the Tourist Police, will oversee adherence to instructions and mitigate practices that negatively affect the cleanliness of natural and tourist sites.
In regards to enhancing infrastructure, the program will distribute 300 metal waste containers with a capacity of 1100 liters and install 300 hanging waste baskets at picnic and tourist and archaeological sites, with Irbid Governorate being the first stage of implementation, and continuing the distribution to include other governorates of the kingdom.
In the aspect of awareness, a comprehensive media campaign will be launched in cooperation with partners, including text messages, video clips, and educational content via social media platforms, featuring environmental activists and influencers, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining public hygiene and instilling correct environmental behaviors.
The committee emphasized that maintaining the cleanliness of natural and tourist sites is a shared responsibility, calling on citizens to adhere to correct environmental practices while picnicking during the Eid vacation, contributing to the protection of natural resources and maintaining the aesthetic of public places across the various regions of the kingdom. It also noted that in case of unstable weather conditions, the campaigns will be postponed to ensure participant safety.
It is noted that the executive program was approved by the Council of Ministers, and a ministerial committee chaired by the Minister of Environment and including several concerned ministers, as well as the chairman of the Amman Committee and the director of public security, was formed to oversee the implementation, submit periodic reports to the Council of Ministers, measure performance indicators, and evaluate the environmental and behavioral impact, ensuring effective and sustainable results.
