Khaberni - The public prosecutor of the UAE state referred nine defendants of Arab nationality to trial after investigations revealed their involvement in forming an organized criminal gang that committed a series of serious crimes that could disrupt the state's security, public order, and harm its societal peace.
The details of the case date back to a report received by the federal public prosecutor through its digital application "Safe Community" from one of the victims, who stated that he was kidnapped, assaulted, and his privacy violated by being filmed handcuffed in visual clips.
Following the directives of the public prosecutor, the public prosecutor's office began the investigation and evidence gathering, instructed the federal judicial registry to take the necessary investigative measures to identify the perpetrators and apprehend them urgently, while securing the tools used in committing the crimes.
The investigations revealed that the defendants lured the victim to one of their homes over financial disputes, then assaulted him, handcuffed him, and detained him for a full week after coercing him into signing debt bonds, before filming him naked and sharing the clips on a social media platform and extorting his family for money.
The car and mobile phones used in executing the crime were also seized; inside them were the recorded clips that proved the defendants' involvement in the crimes attributed to them, which confirms the organized and dangerous nature of the gang.
The defendants are facing charges that could result in the death penalty or life imprisonment, due to their proven formation of an organized gang whose activity disrupts the state's security.
His Excellency Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, the public prosecutor, affirmed that preserving the state's security and stability is a top national priority that cannot be compromised, emphasizing the public prosecutor's office's determination to continue its mission in protecting lives and property, enforcing the law strictly, justly, and impartially, and asserting that the public prosecution will not hesitate to pursue criminals that threaten the nation's security or societal peace, and bring them to justice according to the law.
