Khaberni - Are you part of the team that arranges dishes inside the dishwasher meticulously? Or do you throw everything in randomly and just press start?

No matter your style, experts confirm that the way you arrange the dishes inside the dishwasher can be the difference between an effective cleaning cycle and a disappointing one.

Expert Andrew Lavelin, the lead researcher at the British institution Which and a specialist in kitchen appliances, revealed a set of golden rules unknown to many to the newspaper Archive, the first and perhaps most controversial of which is that there is no need to rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.

Lavelin says, "It's enough to just remove food residues, as most modern dishwasher programs include an initial rinse stage, and there's no need to waste water and time on pre-rinsing."

He adds that some common mistakes lead to damage to household utensils, such as placing spoons, wooden cutting boards, or non-stick pans inside the dishwasher, as repeated hot cycles can damage the protective layer or crack the wood.

As for the ideal arrangement method, Lavelin recommends placing flat dishes facing towards the center of the dishwasher so they're well reached by the water jets, with large and sensitive pots and pans on the top rack.

As for cutlery such as forks, knives, and spoons, they should be distributed so that some are facing up and some down to avoid "tangling" in a way that prevents complete cleaning.

The expert emphasizes a fundamental rule, saying it’s the "secret to the good performance of any dishwasher: "do not overload the dishwasher, as overloading prevents water and detergent from reaching all corners."

It appears that clean dishes depend not only on the type of dishwasher or the quality of the detergent but on the smart arrangement inside it; as Lavelin says, "Perfect cleaning starts with perfect organization."
