Khaberni - An expert warns that snoring may indicate serious health issues such as obstructive sleep apnea, urging immediate consultation with a doctor when specific symptoms appear.
Snoring is often underestimated, but it can be a sign of repeated airway obstruction during sleep, which hinders breathing and leads to the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the blood, causing morning headaches and severe exhaustion during the day.
According to the British "Mirror" newspaper, Dr. Aaron M. Forman identified seven warning indicators of snoring that require medical attention:
Persistent loud snoring that occurs most nights of the week and disturbs the partner.
Choking sounds or gasping during sleep, often noticed by the partner.
Morning headaches caused by reduced oxygen levels.
Severe fatigue during the day despite sufficient sleep.
Mood changes and increased irritability due to chronic sleep deprivation.
Problems with concentration and memory resulting from disrupted deep sleep.
High blood pressure resulting from repeated breathing stops and activation of stress hormones.
The expert warns that ignoring sleep apnea can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and metabolic issues. However, he emphasized that this condition is highly treatable, provided it is diagnosed early.
Forman's guidelines align with the recommendations of the UK National Health Service (NHS), which advises seeing a general practitioner if sleep apnea, gasping sounds, persistent snoring, or chronic daytime fatigue are noticed, warning of the health risks of neglect.
