Jordan A Deputy Calls for a Public Referendum on Reinstating Winter Time

Khaberni - MP Dr. Hussein Al-Amoush sent an official memorandum to Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan, requesting a public referendum on reinstating the winter time system in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Al-Amoush indicated in his memorandum that this proposal is based on the provisions of the Jordanian Constitution and embodies the principle of public participation in decision-making, highlighting the importance of measuring citizens' opinions on an issue that directly affects their daily lives and various economic, educational, and social sectors.

Al-Amoush suggested that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship should prepare a dedicated electronic platform for the referendum in cooperation with the relevant entities, while the Independent Election Commission should oversee the transparency and integrity of the process and announce the results, ensuring that all Jordanian citizens can participate through secure digital verification mechanisms.

Al-Amoush emphasized that the goal of this proposal is to enhance the approach of transparency and participatory democracy in national decision-making, and to enable citizens to participate in determining the most suitable time system for the kingdom that serves the public interest and enhances trust between state institutions and citizens.

Al-Amoush concluded his memorandum by urging the government to study the proposal and take whatever it sees appropriate for the public good, expressing his confidence in the responsiveness of the Prime Minister's office to this national proposition.
