Khaberni - Turki Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, announced during his speech at the opening of the "Joy Forum 2025", details of the film "The Unsheathed Sword of God – Khalid bin Al-Walid", which is considered one of the largest production projects.
The film addresses the famous Battle of Yarmouk, directed by the international director Alec, featuring a bevy of Hollywood and Arab world stars, and is to be filmed in Big Time Fortress studios, in preparation for its global release in 2027.
The work is entirely executed in English, marking the first Saudi production of this magnitude aimed at the global markets, reflecting the Kingdom's rising ambition to build a competitive international cinema industry.
Big Time Fund
Al-Sheikh clarified that the film is part of the first phase of the "Big Time Fund" project, which includes the production of 27 Saudi, Arab, and international films, within a plan aimed at establishing the Kingdom as a main destination for the global cinema industry.
In a related context of developing the artistic industry, Al-Sheikh announced the transformation of "Marwas" studios into a global music platform in partnership with Benchmark and several regional and international entities.
He explained that the new platform will be the first of its kind in the region, dedicated to supporting musical talents and producing works to international standards, thereby enhancing the Kingdom's presence in the international music scene.
Epic Film
Furthermore, the Chairman of the Entertainment Authority revealed the production of a massive national film depicting the heroics of the Saudi army in battling Al-Qaeda, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense led by His Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman.
The film features a globally renowned writer, an Oscar winner alongside a prestigious director, and is scheduled for release at the end of 2026 or early 2027.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, Al-Sheikh announced a Saudi film inspired by a true story about the Kingdom's efforts in combating drugs, affirming that the work honors the efforts of the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammad bin Salman, in protecting the community, and will be implemented with the participation of a world director and an entirely Saudi team.
Historical Drama
As part of the new dramatic plan, Al-Sheikh announced a massive historical series titled "Father of Kings – Abdul Malik ibn Marwan", produced by MBC studios, Silah Company, and Shahid platform.
He also referred to a number of new Saudi and Arab works underway, as part of a project to develop local drama and enhance the quality of artistic production, in line with the significant cultural transformations witnessed by the Kingdom.
Al-Sheikh emphasized that the strategy of the Entertainment Authority initiates in the spirit of cooperation with Arab and international creators, pointing to massive forthcoming cinematic projects including: the film "The Blue Elephant" in cooperation with the Egyptian director Marwan Hamed, and the film "The Lady" which explores the biography of Umm Kulthum.
