Khaberni - The Vice President of the University of Jordan for Scientific Colleges Affairs, Ashraf Abu Karki, said that the fight that took place on the university campus on Thursday started between two students but later extended to include a group of their friends.

Abu Karki clarified in a statement to "Al Mamlaka" on Thursday evening, that the university started gathering information and investigating the reasons for the fight and those involved in it.

He noted that the university campus is almost fully covered with surveillance cameras, which allows for accurately identifying all those involved in the fight.

He specified that the university would handle the fight according to the regulations and procedures in place, in a strict manner, mentioning that the penalties could extend to final dismissal from the university. He added that there will be committees in the Dean of Student Affairs working according to its instructions and systems, and will perform their duties properly until a decision that considers the student's interest first is made.

He added that a student who is finally dismissed cannot join any other official university in Jordan.

Abu Karki confirmed that the university security handled the fight with high professionalism to ensure the safety of the students and to protect the campus, pointing out that the phenomenon of university violence is complex and has multiple causes, making it difficult to specifically pinpoint the motives.

The public security spokesperson stated that a report was received by the Capital Governorate Security Command on Thursday afternoon, which indicated a fight inside the University of Jordan. Immediate security reinforcements were dispatched and deployed around the university and near its entrances.

The spokesperson confirmed that the fight resulted in seven injuries that were rushed to the hospital, all in good condition and under treatment, while the security forces managed to arrest 42 individuals who participated in the fight as they were leaving.

He noted that investigations were initiated in coordination with relevant entities inside the university to identify all those who participated in or caused the fight and to apprehend them.

The University of Jordan referred a number of students who caused disturbances and violated the rules and regulations inside the university campus to the Student Affairs Committee for appropriate disciplinary actions.

The University of Jordan affirmed that it will not be lenient with those proven to be responsible for the incidents, and will impose the strictest punishments, emphasizing its full commitment to applying the regulations and instructions to ensure a safe academic environment for everyone.
