Syrian artist Reem Khoury appeared in a look that garnered admiration at the opening ceremony of the eighth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival.

El Gouna city witnessed this evening the launch of the eighth edition of the El Gouna International Film Festival, attended by numerous cinema stars from Egypt, the Arab world, and internationally.

In his speech during the opening ceremony, Engineer Naguib Sawiris, founder of the festival, welcomed the audience, saying:

«Welcome to the eighth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival, where we continue our journey under our perpetual slogan 'Cinema for Humanity'».

Sawiris added that cinema is not just an art but a "universal language that reveals the essence of humanity and reflects its pains and dreams, providing the ability to imagine a more just and compassionate reality," affirming that the festival has now become a cultural beacon and creative hub where ideas and visions meet.

Honoring Menna Shalaby with the 'Creative Achievement Award' and Cate Blanchett as the Honorary Guest of the Festival

This year, the festival grants the Creative Achievement Award to the Egyptian star Menna Shalaby in recognition of her rich artistic career and impactful roles in Egyptian and Arab cinema.

Additionally, the eighth edition hosts the international star Cate Blanchett as an honorary guest, where she is honored with the 'Heroine of Humanity' award in appreciation of her artistic and humanitarian contributions.

70 films from various countries in the program of the eighth edition

This year's festival includes about 70 films from multiple countries, featuring feature films, documentaries, and short films.

Egyptian cinema is significantly present through five films participating in the various festival competitions, in addition to the opening film 'Happy Birthday'.

The festival also features a special screening of the film 'Gentlemen' with the presence of its creators and cast, before its official release in theaters on Wednesday, October 22.
