Trump threatens to move World Cup games from unsafe American cities

Khaberni - US President Donald Trump, once again, hinted at the possibility of pulling the 2026 World Cup games from American cities he claims are unsafe, amid escalating conflicts with cities led by Democrats.

Trump said in the Oval Office during a meeting with Argentinian President Javier Mile: "If someone is doing a bad job and I feel there are unsafe conditions, I will call Gianni Infantino, the great FIFA president, and I will tell him let's move to another location. He will do it. He may not like doing it, but he will do it very easily."

Trump was responding to a reporter who asked him about Michelle Wu, the Democratic mayor of Boston.

Trump said about Wu: "I think she is harming Boston," and described her as "an extreme leftist."

Regarding the possibility of moving World Cup games away from the designated host city, Trump said: "If I believe Boston is doing something that could cause safety problems for the World Cup... we will do that."

America is hosting the World Cup, which will be played with 48 teams, along with Mexico and Canada.

America will host games in 11 locations: Seattle, San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Miami, New York/New Jersey, and Philadelphia.

Trump often cites high crime rates in cities governed by Democrats, although independent analyses show that violent crime rates have decreased in many of those areas.

Trump has ordered the National Guard to be deployed in several Democrat-led cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, citing increasing crime rates and protests against American raid campaigns related to immigration.

Several states and cities have legally challenged this decision, considering it a violation of their sovereignty and a dangerous precedent for the use of internal military pressure.

FIFA manages the World Cup competition, and it is unclear whether Trump has the authority to move the tournament games to other locations or not.
