According to data from the Directorate of Industrial Property Protection in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, the number of registered trademarks reached 3,419 by the end of last September, while the total renewed trademarks in the same period amounted to 4,998 trademarks.
According to a statement by the Directorate, on Wednesday, the Directorate renewed 462 patents, granted 13 trademark usage licenses, allowed the change of name and address of 839 industrial properties, and transferred the ownership of 1,413.
Also, the number of registered trademarks last year was 5,687, and the number of renewed trademarks was 6,245, while the number of registered patents was 111, including 8 local ones.
According to the law, a patent is any creative idea that the inventor comes up with in any of the technical fields, relating to a product or a method of manufacture or both, which leads to solving a specific problem in any of these fields.
Registering a patent involves all the procedures related to patent applications submitted to the office, starting from the stage of guiding inventors on how to submit a patent application and ending with the issuance of the final patent certificate.
These procedures include a series of technical and formal operations related to the examination of the application to ensure it meets all the conditions specified in the law, and also include a series of operations related to patent applications, which are carried out to meet the needs of the third party from the public (excluding applicants, agents, and inventors); such as publication in the official journal or procedures of inspecting the registry.
