Khaberni - Dmitry Gindelman informed "Novosti", a political advisor in the office of the Israeli Prime Minister, today that the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will visit Israel on Tuesday, October 14.
This visit comes within the framework of diplomatic developments between the two countries, and it is a historic visit because Indonesia, which is the largest Islamic country by population, does not have diplomatic relations with Israel.
This announcement was preceded by statements by President Subianto in September 2024 during meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, in which he affirmed that achieving true peace in the Middle East requires recognition of an independent Palestine and ensuring the security of Israel at the same time.
This visit comes amidst tensions between Jakarta and Tel Aviv, as the Indonesian government announced last week its refusal to issue entry visas to Israeli gymnasts for participating in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, scheduled to be held in the capital, Jakarta, between October 19 and October 25.
Some reports had indicated that Israel and Indonesia were on the verge of announcing an agreement to exchange trade offices as a first step towards establishing full diplomatic relations in October 2023, but the events of October 7 and the subsequent war in Gaza led to the postponement of these plans.
