Syrian Minister of Higher Education Visits Jordan

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Azmi Governorate, in his office on the campus of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, met today, Monday, October 13, 2025, with the Syrian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, who is visiting the Kingdom at the head of a high-level delegation. The meeting was attended by the Acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Shadi Musa, the President of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, Dr. Zafar Al-Sarayrah, and His Excellency the Chargé d'Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Amman, Dr. Ihsan Ruman.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Governorate welcomed the honorable Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi and his accompanying delegation, wishing them a pleasant stay in their second home, Jordan, emphasizing the deep historical relations that link the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the brotherly Syrian Arab Republic. He also emphasized Jordan's keenness to increase cooperation with Syria in various fields, especially in higher education and scientific research, and the exchange of expertise in this field. In turn, Dr. Al-Halabi expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality, also affirming that Jordan and Syria are linked by deep historical, cultural, and religious relations. He clarified the eagerness of both the Jordanian and Syrian sides to strengthen these relations and develop them through distinguished relations in the field of higher education and scientific research. During the meeting, a number of issues of interest to both parties were discussed, including plans to soon renew the signing of an executive program in the field of higher education and scientific research between the two countries, which will allow for increased cooperation in the field of student scholarships and organizing mutual visits between students and faculty members, and the activation of joint programs and projects through twinning between Jordanian and Syrian universities, as well as the exchange of scholarships and study seats allocated for students of both parties. The two parties also discussed establishing the official frameworks necessary to achieve mutual recognition of universities after meeting the standards adopted by each party, in addition to other topics of mutual interest.

Subsequently, another meeting was held for the Syrian Minister of Higher Education and his accompanying delegation with the President of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, and several of its members.

The meeting was attended by the Jordanian side, including: the Media Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Director of the Unified Admissions Coordination Unit, Muhannad Al-Khatib, and the Director of the Unit for Affairs of Incoming Students, Dr. Sajida Al-Nadaff, and the Director of the Directorate for Recognition and Equation of Non-Jordanian Certificates, Dr. Aseel Al-Muhaisen, and the Director of the Directorate of Scholarships, Ibrahim Al-Amoush, and the Head of the Public Relations, Public Service and Parliamentary Affairs Unit, Fawzi Abu Faris.

It is worth mentioning that the Syrian delegation includes: Dr. Abdul Hameed Al-Khaled/ Assistant Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Educational Affairs, and Dr. Abeer Qudsi/ Assistant Minister for Administrative Affairs, and Dr. Omar Hamada/ President of the National Authority for Quality and Accreditation, and Dr. Nimer Issa, Director of Cultural Relations in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Mr. Khaled Abdullah, Director of Communication and Executive Support at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and finally Mr. Ahmad Al-Ashqar, Director of the Media Office at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

It should also be noted that the program of the Syrian delegation's visit will also include visits to the University of Jordan, the Higher Council for Science and Technology, Princess Sumaya University for Technology, the Jordan University of Science and Technology, the German Jordanian University, and Hussein Technical University.
