Prime Minister of Qatar Negotiations on Challenging Issues between Hamas and Israel have been Postponed to After the First Phas

Khaberni - Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, said that the mediators have decided to postpone the discussion of the more complicated issues in the Gaza negotiations due to the unpreparedness of the concerned parties to handle them at the current stage.

In an interview with The New York Times, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar explained that aiming for comprehensive negotiations from the start would have hindered the progress achieved so far.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani noted that the incremental approach in handling the files has contributed to achieving tangible results, most notably the ceasefire and the release of prisoners.

He added that one of the fundamental questions still raised is the future of the arms of the Hamas movement, saying, "There is a fundamental difference between Hamas handing over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority or another entity."

The Qatari Prime Minister emphasized that the next step should be to discuss forming an international stability force, and mentioned that the Hamas movement is open to discussing how it does not pose a threat to Israel.
