Google launches smart feature in Chrome Automatically muting annoying notifications

Khaberni - Google has announced the launch of a new feature within its famous browser "Chrome" that automatically mutes website notifications that users frequently ignore.

This step targets user comfort and reduces what is known as "notification fatigue".

A new feature within an extensive update
The new feature, which is being integrated into Chrome versions for Android and desktop devices, is part of an extensive update to the pre-existing “Safety Check” tool in the browser, according to "News Bytes," a website specialized in technology news.

This tool is one of the security functions in Chrome, as it allows users to control sensitive permissions such as access to the camera or geographic location.

The new update expands its scope to include website notifications, whereby Google automatically withdraws notification permissions from sites that send frequent alerts without user interaction.

How does the new feature work?
The new feature operates in a similar way to the current Android system, which allows unsubscribing from site notifications with a single click.

However, apps installed on the device won't be affected by this feature, as Google only targets sites that overwhelm the user with annoying alerts that receive no attention.

As reported by "News Bytes," the company revealed that less than 1% of web notifications through Chrome engage users, which prompted them to develop this feature after noticing that the vast majority of alerts are completely ignored.

Results of preliminary tests
In tests conducted by Google, results showed a clear decrease in the number of notifications sent to users, without any significant impact on click rates or overall engagement, proving the new system's effectiveness in eliminating unwanted alerts without harming the core browser experience.

Expected launch date
Although the company has not yet announced a specific date for the official launch of the feature, it confirmed that it will gradually reach all users around the world within the upcoming Chrome updates.

Users will still be able to manually disable the new feature or reactivate notifications for specific sites by revisiting those sites or modifying permissions from the "Safety Check" menu in browser settings.
