Khaberni - The Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq released a statement on Saturday evening regarding the arrest of a prominent Ba'athist leader, confirming his connection to the "Secretary of the Party Leadership."

The forces stated in the announcement that "the intelligence and information assistant squads carried out a meticulous special operation, resulting in the arrest of the individual named Abdul Razzaq Hasj Oudah, one of the prominent leaders of the banned Ba'ath Party, after weeks of precise intelligence surveillance."

The statement added, "The aforementioned individual was an active element in the repressive apparatus of the defunct regime and was involved in committing heinous crimes against the people, including participating in the execution of a number of innocents, among them four siblings. It was also proven that he engaged in prohibited activities that threaten state security, in addition to his connection with the secretary of the leadership of the defunct party, and his continued communication with Ba'athist elements operating covertly to destabilize and sow discord."

The authority, according to the statement, invited the victims' families and those affected to "proceed to the specialized judicial institutions to file official complaints against this criminal, in preparation for his trial before the competent authorities so that he may receive the just punishment he deserves."

The statement followed an announcement by the Supreme National Authority for Accountability and Justice on Wednesday, stating that the security forces with the police command of Dhi Qar executed a meticulous intelligence operation that managed to arrest several of the "major" leaders of the Ba'ath Party in the Dhi Qar governorate in southern Iraq.

The authority also stated in a statement to the agency at that time that "the operation was described as the largest of its kind in the city of Nasiriyah in recent years, and came after precise monitoring of the movements of some elements that were working to reorganize the party's activities secretly."
