Khaberni - The story of a former Egyptian engineer who worked for years in the nuclear energy sector at one of the Egyptian reactors generated wide interaction after her life turned upside down, leaving her homeless and sleeping on the streets. The engineer, Layla Ibrahim Hassan (66 years old), who worked for years at the Atomic Energy Commission in Anshas city, found herself homeless 7 months ago after losing her apartment following a dispute with the property owner, and after her situation was discovered, her story became a "trend" calling for a solution to her problems and appropriate recognition.
Engineer Layla revealed the reason for losing her home, stating that she had rented a residential apartment in the Tahrir area of Giza governorate 8 years ago, with a monthly rent of 1200 Egyptian pounds and a 10% increase every two years. However, she was surprised when the property owner demanded a higher rent 7 months ago or eviction, amid a huge increase in rentals coinciding with the reception of large numbers of refugees in the area and the increased demand for apartments.
She explained that she refused the amount requested by the property owner, and she also refused to leave, but she was surprised when he stormed the apartment and changed the locks, depriving her of her home and forcing her to live on the streets.
After wide interaction and the spread of her photos on the pavement, the Ministry of Social Solidarity intervened to confirm that a team would move to her place of residence in Kafr Tahrir to assess her situation, and the government complaints system at the Council of Ministers confirmed their follow-up on the matter after her cry for help was published in the media.
It is worth noting that the city of Anshas hosts the first research nuclear reactor in Egypt, built in cooperation with the Soviet Union in 1961.
