Khaberni - Meta announced the addition of support for more languages in the AI translation feature for "Reels" on Facebook and Instagram platforms, by its smart assistant "Meta AI".

The feature now supports translation in Hindi and Portuguese, in addition to English and Spanish, according to a company statement on Thursday.

Meta began testing the feature about a year ago, and added bidirectional support in English and Spanish in August.

The company said that content creators on Facebook and Instagram can use "Meta AI" to translate and dub Reels clips to reach audiences in some of the largest Reels markets around the world.

The translation feature from Meta is available for free on public Instagram accounts, and for content creators on Facebook who have more than 1,000 followers in the countries where Meta AI service is available.

This feature mimics the voice and tone of the content creator to make the Reels clip sound more realistic compared to using another voice. Content creators can synchronize their lip movements with the translated voice.

Meta said that every Reels clip containing a translated voice has a clear mark informing viewers that they are watching translated content. Users can click on the three-dot menu button in the bottom right corner of the clip to access the translation settings, where they can turn the feature on/off, change the language, or choose a language they prefer to keep untranslated.

The company plans to expand the translation feature for Reels clips in the future with support for more languages. According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, Reels is among the top audience attractions in recent years, and the company is focused on building more features related to it.
