Khaberni - In a controversial incident, the Iraqi security forces found on Tuesday an archaeological treasure inside a house in the Ghazaliya area of the capital Baghdad.
Based on prior security indicators, a security force launched an extensive search campaign in several houses within the Ghazaliya area, where 18 archaeological pieces were found stored inside one of the houses in an illegal manner.
The security authorities imposed a blackout on the types of the archaeological pieces and their affiliation to any historical period.
Employee at the Martyrs' Foundation
According to what was published by local media, the house belongs to a government employee who works at the Martyrs' Foundation, which was established in 2005, falls under the Iraqi Council of Ministers, and is charged with addressing the general situation of the families of martyrs and the wounded and compensating them financially and morally in a way that matches the magnitude of the sacrifices they made.
According to what was revealed by the security authorities, the archaeological pieces were seized according to proper procedures, and the owner of the house was arrested and detained for the purpose of completing the necessary legal investigations, in preparation for presenting him to the competent judicial authorities.
