Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Israeli Army announced this Monday evening that the Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, has issued instructions to raise the army's alert level to the maximum during the Sukkot period.
The army statement said that the decision was taken after a situation assessment meeting held by Zamir this morning with the participation of the General Staff, in preparation for the holiday.
The statement explained: "At the conclusion of the assessment, the Chief of Staff directed to raise the alert level in the army to the highest level, and emphasized that the defense effort will be the main task until the end of the holiday period."
Zamir's instructions included:
* Conduct field exercises for all forces before the holiday, including training at defensive positions.
* Focus army tasks on core missions and review the procedures for receiving reserve forces on all fronts.
* Keep the air force in a high state of readiness for defense and attack, with special focus on the Gaza Strip.
* Tighten security measures and require prior approval for events and festivals during the holiday.
The statement added that the Chief of Staff affirmed that there is no change in the multi-front security assessments, and that these steps come as part of increasing readiness for the holiday period.
Zamir said at the end of his statement: "We are in a constant state of alert and are ready on all fronts, defensively and offensively, and we continue our mission to ensure that all Israelis can celebrate the holiday calmly and safely."
