Khaberni - There is no doubt that speed reading without losing comprehension makes a big difference for students, and for this reason, a new study recommended several things to achieve the required efficiency.
According to India Today, the following seven tips for speed reading help cover more material efficiently while retaining the key information:
1. Preview the text

Reading the headlines, subheadings, and summaries before the actual reading helps because knowing the structure of the text allows the mind to anticipate important points and speeds up comprehension.
2. Use of a marker or finger

Guiding the eyes with a finger or a pen minimizes unnecessary backtracking and ensures steady eye movement across the page.
3. Avoid subvocalization

It is advisable to stop pronouncing each word silently; instead, focus on visualizing concepts, as the mind processes thoughts faster than words.
4. Focus on key words

It is recommended to focus on the main ideas and key words while avoiding extra words to maintain speed and comprehension, as not every word needs to be read.
5. Practice chunking

Reading groups of words together instead of one word at a time allows the mind to process two to four words at once, which speeds up reading.
6. Reduce distractions

Seeking a quiet place and turning off notifications on smartphones and computers helps to eliminate distractions, as focused reading significantly improves speed and understanding.
7. Regular practice

Since speed reading is a skill, daily practice, even if it is only for 15-20 minutes, helps train the eyes and the mind to read faster without losing comprehension.

It is noted that reading is a cognitive intellectual process in which decoding of letters, numbers, and other symbols is performed to understand the meaning and comprehend the written text or message.

It is also an activity for obtaining information and learning, relying on advanced linguistic skills such as pronunciation and understanding, in addition to invoking prior knowledge and experiences to form a deep understanding.
