An AIDesigned Actress Stirs Jealousy Among Hollywood Stars

Khaberni - Have you seen this actress before? Look closely. However, you will conclude that you have never seen her before in any film, although she will soon become one of the most prominent stars in Hollywood from her very first roles.

The actress in question has sparked outrage and jealousy among Hollywood actors for the simple reason that she does not feel or sense emotions and may not be able to embody the emotional state required of an actor, as she is "completely mechanical" and fully developed by artificial intelligence.

The virtual actress, named Tilly Norwood, was designed by "Xicoia" studio, with the declared ambition to make her "the next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman".

Last week, the company's founder, Eileen van der Velden, revealed that many agencies had begun racing to sign contracts with the virtual actress.

This has reignited fears that artificial intelligence may replace artists, one of the main motivations for the massive strikes that paralyzed Hollywood in 2023.

Actors resorted to social media to express their opinions.

Melissa Barrera, star of the horror films "Scream" and "Scream 6", wrote on Instagram "I hope all the actors contracted with the agency behind this give up their services. How terrible!"

Mara Wilson, who played "Matilda", said: "Shame on them. They have stolen the faces of hundreds of young women to create this AI actress. They are not creators, but identity thieves."

In a lighter tone, Lucas Gage from the series "The White Lotus", accused his virtual counterpart of being a "nightmare to deal with" because she "cannot locate herself on set and is also late to her appointments".

This controversy forced Van der Velden to respond, clarifying on Instagram that "Tilly Norwood is not a substitute for a human, but a creative work."

She added "Just as animation, puppet shows, and special effects opened new horizons without diminishing live performance, AI offers another way to imagine and build stories."

She believes that AI-developed virtual actors "should be judged as part of their own artistic genre, based on their merits, rather than being directly compared to human actors."

The use of artificial intelligence has become more evident in recent months in the creative industries, sparking debate each time.

For instance, the virtual band "The Velvet Sun Down" surpassed the million listeners threshold on Spotify platform during the past summer.

Furthermore, in its August issue, "Vogue" magazine published an advertisement featuring a hypothetical model created by artificial intelligence.
