Athletic Bilbao stands in solidarity with Gaza

Khaberni - The Spanish club Athletic Bilbao posted on its official X account a call for solidarity with the people of Gaza and the Palestinian cause.

The club wrote a message stating "Athletic with Palestine, stop the genocide. Huni Telgeia, ambassador of Athletic Bilbao, a group of Palestinian refugees in the Basque Country, and representatives from UNRWA, will receive support at the San Mamés Stadium before tomorrow's Saturday match against Real Mallorca."

On September 21, the Spanish club announced the launch of a joint project with UNRWA to support Palestinian refugee children in Syria, benefiting approximately 8,000 children in 16 schools run by the agency through providing physical education classes as part of a program that started earlier this October.

Football fans in Spanish stadiums have spontaneously declared their solidarity with Gaza amidst the ongoing genocide against its inhabitants, raising Palestinian flags in the stands and displaying banners with messages of support for Gaza and the Palestinians.

In September, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a series of measures aimed at stopping the genocide committed by Israel in Gaza, including a complete ban on arms directed to Israel.

Soccer circles around the world have campaigned to exclude Israel from international and continental competitions, where FIFA and UEFA have been urged to disqualify Israel from world football championships, especially the World Cup.
