Bara'ah Hatem Hussein Al-Baraj, a student from the College of Sport Sciences – Department of Movement Sciences and Sports Training at the University of Jordan, created an application aimed at empowering the visually impaired.
The idea is named "Sableh 2025," aiming to enable the visually impaired and allow them greater independence in their daily lives, through the development of a smart app based on artificial intelligence technologies.
Al-Baraj said in a conversation with "Khaberni" that work on the idea is currently underway, noting that the application has not yet been activated for use.
She explained that the idea stems from an old personal experience, where she used to assist visually impaired students during their exams, and from there the idea originated as the visually impaired are in need of smart technology to serve them.
She pointed out that the app will use advanced tools and technologies, including artificial intelligence, noting that it will give the visually impaired greater independence in their daily lives, and will ease their safe mobility on the streets and public places and integration into society, and assist in shopping and reading and providing protection and safety in emergency situations.
The app, innovated by Al-Baraj, operates with voice commands only, eliminating the need to touch the screen, relying on the camera to analyze the surrounding environment, recognize people and objects, and read text, then conveying it to the user through direct voice description, in addition to providing precise guidance via a GPS system for safe navigation in the streets and public venues.
She continued that they have currently reached the ideal phase in developing the idea, and one of the key features of the application, the voice rescue feature, allows the user, in emergency situations, to send a distress signal for the system to automatically contact a trusted person and send their immediate geographical location, in addition to direct communication with emergency services or the police to ensure rapid response and rescue.
The idea was warmly welcomed and "Sableh 2025" was selected among the top three winning innovations in the 2025 Innovation Competition, to be presented in front of His Royal Highness Prince Hassan bin Talal.
Al-Baraj collaborated with JAIP company, which will take on the execution phases of the idea and transform it into an actual product named: VISION.MATE .
Bara'ah Al-Baraj affirmed that this project reflects both a humanitarian and technological mission, aimed at supporting visually impaired individuals and integrating them more into society.
