Khaberni - A New York prosecutor has requested a prison sentence of more than 11 years for hip-hop star Diddy, who was acquitted in July of the most serious charges against him in a sexual assault case.
The singer, whose real name is Sean Combs, is currently in prison and a sentencing will be announced on Friday in a New York court, where he is being tried. 55-year-old Diddy was accused of forcing many women, including his former partner, singer Cassie, from 2007 to 2018, into prostitution.
In early July, the singer was acquitted of the most serious accusations against him, namely sex trafficking and forming a criminal enterprise, but he was instead convicted of transporting individuals for the purposes of prostitution.
In a detailed document of 166 pages dated Tuesday, federal prosecutor Jay Clayton justified the requested sentence against Diddy by stating that "his crimes are serious, and in similar cases, have led to prison sentences of over ten years."
Later, Jay Clayton wrote "A lengthy prison sentence is also necessary in this case because the defendant shows no remorse," and added, "Sean Combs tries to portray decades of abuse as just the result of mutual toxic relationships, but there is nothing mutual in a relationship where one person holds all the power."
He supported his arguments with an excerpt from a letter sent by singer Cassie (real name Cassandra Ventura) to the court, which stated "I hope the sentencing decision you make reflects the courage that the victims of Sean Combs had in bringing forward their complaints."
Last week, the defense team for the rapper and businessman requested a sentence of no more than 14 months, which would allow for his release before the end of the year, considering the time he has served in pre-trial detention.
