Khaberni - A statement issued by the office of the Israeli Prime Minister said that the Arab Israeli, Mahmoud Salameh, was returned, today Wednesday, from Jordan to Israel through the Jordan River crossing at the Sheikh Hussein Bridge, after he had been detained there for about three months.
The statement mentioned that the operation was conducted through security and diplomatic mediation, and that Salameh will undergo examinations and interrogation before meeting his family.
The Israeli statement did not clarify his place of residence or the circumstances of his detention, nor was any official comment issued from the Jordanian side.
The statement mentioned that Mahmoud Salameh, (a resident of the town of Jaljulia) an Israeli citizen who had been detained in Jordan for about three months, was returned on Wednesday afternoon to Israel and handed over to the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.
According to the statement, this came after contacts that took place over the past few months with the assistance of the Shin Bet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Israeli Police.
The statement added that Salameh will undergo medical examinations, will be interrogated, and then he will meet his family, indicating that the circumstances of the incident are under examination by the security agencies.
The statement also noted that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, thanked the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Reserve General Gal Hirsch, and all those who assisted in his return.
