Khaberni - The Spanish government announced on Tuesday that it will investigate companies that promote products or services in the country originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
This action follows the decree passed last week that bans the promotion of such goods and services in Spain to prevent companies from benefiting from the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
This was stated by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, in a statement. This decree is part of a package of measures that includes a ban on the supply of weapons to Israel, aimed at stopping the genocide in Gaza.
Earlier this year, the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Pablo Bustinduy, said that his office would use "all necessary resources" to ensure that no company operating in Spain benefits from the occupation.
The statement quoted him as saying at an event held in July, "No company’s budget should be stained with the blood of the Palestinian people."
The United Nations issued an update on Friday to its database of companies that have activities in Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories, listing 158 companies from 11 countries.
However, one of the Spanish companies listed, ACS in construction, quickly requested its removal from the list, stating that in 2021 it sold its subsidiary SEMI that operates in Israel.
The company, headed by Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid, stated in a press release, "ACS does not engage in any operations in Israel or in the Israeli settlements."
