Khaberni - Egypt’s external debt increased by about $4.5 billion during the second quarter of 2025, reaching $161.2 billion compared to $156.69 billion in the first quarter of the year, according to data from the Egyptian Ministry of Planning.
At the same time, Egypt's current account deficit decreased by 41% to record $2.19 billion during the second quarter of the current year, compared with $3.7 billion in the same quarter of the previous year.
On a quarterly basis, the deficit decreased by about 4.3% compared with a deficit of $2.29 billion in the first quarter of 2025.
The current account deficit decreased by 26% during the last fiscal year to reach $15.39 billion, compared with $20.8 billion in the previous fiscal year.
