Khaberni - The Minister of Water and Irrigation, Engineer Raed Abu Saud, announced the inauguration of a 2-megawatt photovoltaic solar power project for the Disi Water Project in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Yakup Kames Olu, the Chairman of the Board of Dewaco, Mr. Tamer Calisher, the General Manager of Gamma Energy, the General Manager of Dewaco, Mr. Ahmed Kadi Oglu, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry, Dr. Jihad Al-Muhaisen, the Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Mr. Hisham Al-Haisa, the Secretary-General of the Water Authority, Mr. Sofian Al-Bataina, and a number of stakeholders
He explained the economic importance of the project in reducing part of the electricity costs for operating the Disi Water Project, a vital project providing drinking water to the capital Amman, around the clock throughout the year using the latest technology in the field of solar energy through the installation of a comprehensive system. Additionally, 4300 high-efficiency bifacial photovoltaic panels were installed to maximize the benefit from the peak solar hours, which was executed and built with Jordanian local capabilities (Nicola Nassar Company).
Abu Saud added that the new station will generate 2 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions and save operating costs of the project by 2% annually. He affirmed that the water sector is moving forward in implementing renewable energy projects that contribute to ensuring the sustainability of water services, in addition to the project's contribution to enhancing the local environment through environmental impacts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by providing a clean source of energy, creating job opportunities, and other environmental, economic, and social impacts associated with the project which will contribute to achieving sustainable development at the national level as part of the vision of economic modernization and the strategic water plan.
