Khaberni - An Iraqi man was sentenced to life imprisonment for human trafficking after he recruited Iraqis to fight in the ranks of Russia against Ukraine, according to judicial officials, Monday.
According to "Associated Press", the Criminal Court of Najaf stated in a press release that the convicted man formed groups and sent them to fight in foreign countries in exchange for financial compensation, and that the verdict was issued based on the Iraqi anti-human trafficking law.
Two Iraqi judicial officials and a senior security official, who requested anonymity, said the man, known as Risan Falah Kamel, was convicted of recruiting fighters and sending them to fight alongside the Russian side.
Earlier this year, Ukrainian officials said that large numbers of Chinese citizens were fighting in the ranks of the Russian army, and that they had gathered detailed intelligence information on more than 150 mercenaries whom Moscow allegedly recruited via social media.
China denied these claims, while American and South Korean officials stated that North Korea had sent thousands of soldiers and ammunition to help Russia on the battlefield.
