Postponement of the American Ambassadors Visit to Israel to Egypt

Khaberni - The visit of the United States Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, to Egypt has been postponed for now, according to a US official speaking to the "Times of Israel" on Sunday.

The postponement comes shortly after a spokesperson for the US embassy confirmed to "France Presse" that the ambassador would make a "rare" visit to Cairo.

The "New York Times" had earlier referred to the trip, which would be the first official visit to Egypt in decades made by a serving US Ambassador to Israel.

This development comes amid tensions between Israel and Egypt due to the Gaza war, which is on the borders of both countries.

Israeli media reported that Israeli officials have expressed to Washington their concerns about an Egyptian military build-up in the Sinai Peninsula, which borders Egypt with Israel and Gaza.

Last week, the Egyptian government publicly stated that its forces are in Sinai to defend Egypt's borders against all threats, denying Israel's claim that the presence of the forces there constitutes a violation of the peace treaty it signed with Israel in 1979.

According to the "New York Times," Huckabee was expected to address "tensions between Egypt and Israel" during his visit to Cairo, as well as President Donald Trump's plan to end the Gaza war.

Trump had appointed Huckabee, a strong supporter of Israel, as ambassador shortly after being re-elected.
